As we all bounce back from the holiday lull, you’ll notice some new additions to the platform! We’re most excited about our new screenshot tool, which automatically generates screenshots of your app for three iOS device sizes. This is great news for people that don’t have an iPhone 4, iPhone 5, and iPad on hand (and I think that’s most of us).

Q: How does the screenshot tool work?
A: When you click the Generate button, your request enters a queue of other screenshot requests. Once your turn arrives, the app is launched on a simulator using our normal preview app. On each device size, this simulator takes three screenshots: the home screen, the More menu (or modern menu), and the first tab in your app. If your app uses a scrolling layout, the 2nd & 3rd screenshots will be of the first two tabs. After all 9 screenshots are complete, they’ll automatically load in Step 5.
Q: After I hit the Generate button, do I need to wait around or do anything in order for it to work?
A: Nope! Once you’ve clicked Generate, you can leave Step 5, work on another app, or shut down your browser completely. The request has been submitted and the screenshots will generate as normal. You can leave it to do its thing and check back later to see your new screenshots.
Q: What if I don’t like the screenshots that were created, or want to use some that I took?
A: At the moment, the screenshot tool defaults to the three mentioned areas of the app. If you don’t like the generated screenshots or want to upload some of your own to supplement them, you absolutely can. Just delete any screenshots you don’t want using the X that appears at the top right, or upload additional screenshots using the manual upload option.
Q: Can I upload my own screenshots and then run the screenshot tool?
A: Definitely. Just keep in mind, the screenshot tool requires at least 3 open “slots” per size in order to run. So if you have more than 2 screenshots uploaded per size, you won’t be able to use the tool because of the 5-screenshot maximum. If you receive this error, just delete any excess screenshots so you’re down to 2 per size, and you’ll be able to generate them then.
Q: Will there be improvements or changes made to this tool?
A: Absolutely! Like any other feature, we’re constantly working to improve it. Stay tuned for positive updates along the way!
